Doors Open:
7:00pm
Come celebrate this very special evening with passionate flamenco music and dance, presented by Jonathan "Juanito" Pascual with the support of the Zorongo Flamenco Dance Theater and School. After first discovering the art of flamenco guitar during his youth in Minneapolis, Juanito trained extensively with the masters in Spain and at the New England Conservatory, and has risen to take his place as one of the finest young flamenco guitarists on the scene. Energized by a driving passion to share the beauty, and soul-stirring power of this ancient yet most vibrant and evolving musical style, Juanito brings the energy of hope and joy through his performances, recordings, and teaching. Juanito has released two recordings: Cosas en Común, featuring all original flamenco compositions, and followed up in 2009 with Language of the Heart.
Juanito's original music has touched audiences and musicians from across the musical spectrum. He has performed with Grammy-winning artists including soprano Dawn Upshaw, jazz pianists Michel Camilo, and Danilo Perez, bassist John Patitucci, renowned Middle-Eastern musician Omar Faruk Takbilek, and Israeli cantor Emil Zrihan. He has worked with a long list of top flamenco musicians and dancers from Spain and the U.S. including Isaac and Nino de los Reyes, Raquel Heredia, Omayra Amaya, Ramon de los Reyes, Jose Greco II, Sara Erde, Clara Ramona, La Conja, Carlota Santana, La Repompa de Málaga, Inés Arrubla, Susana di Palma, Chuscales, Pedro Cortes, Roberto Catellón and Caminos Flamencos. Since 2005, Juanito has been the director of the annual summer Flamenco Institute at the New England Conservatory in Boston. In 2009, Juanito had his movie debut with an appearance in Pink Panther 2.
Dancer, singer and choreographer La Conja incorporates Arab, Spanish and Indian musical influences into her work, and has been described as "a mesmerizing singer and demon dancer" (Charles Jurrist, New York Daily News).
