The Klezmatics"The Klezmatics have been called the Rolling Stones of klezmer music. The poet Allen Ginsburg likened them to a combination of avant-garde pop and classical music. And comedian Robin Williams insists it's impossible to hear their music and not see God. High praise, indeed. But also merited, as the Klezmatics are that rare musical enclave that crosses genres and boundaries by dint of their singular approach. The music is from the Old World -- it dates to the 15th century, when traditional Jewish musicians began playing for secular audiences -- but the secret of klezmer is simple. It's hard to resist music that so inexorably makes you want to dance." (Rege Behe, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review)

The original Jews with Horns return. Since erupting out of New York City’s East Village in 1986, The Klezmatics have revitalized klezmer. Their music is steeped in Jewish spiritualism and Eastern European tradition while incorporating more provocative themes such as social rights and anti-fundamentalism with eclectic musical influences such as gospel, punk, and Arab, African, and Balkan rhythms. Over the course of more than twenty years, they have released nine albums of wild, spiritual, provocative, reflective, and ecstatically danceable music, forever redefining and transcending traditional labels.

The Klezmatics have garnered numerous awards and accolades throughout their career, including a Grammy award (Best Contemporary World Music Album 2007) for their 2006 release Wonder Wheel, which set inspired music to lyrics of Woody Guthrie, GLAMA (Gay and Lesbian American Music Award), The German Critics Award (twice), and have topped the Billboard world music charts on numerous occasions. The Klezmatics have reached millions through performances and features on Late Night with David Letterman, PBS’ Great Performances, BBC’s Rhythms of the World, BBC’s John Peel Show, various NPR programs (A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor, New Sounds Live andSoundcheck), CBS Nightwatch, FOX After Breakfast, MTV News, and Sex in the City. Additionally, their song “NY Pscho Freylks” is a theme song for Air America Radio’s The Al Franken Show.
